<p></p><p>We worked with this global leadership consultancy, to build a secure, custom portal throughout which practitioners and organisations can purchase and manage projects, participants (and raters) can complete assessments, and everything managed by Andiron staff. The portal also creates proprietary interactive reports, to interact with online and download, that enable users to drill into their behaviours and competencies during online coaching sessions. <br><br>The project involved understanding a complex system of processes and technologies the organisation was already using, so we could then define the right digital strategy to prioritise the opportunities and mitigate risk. <br><br>Delivery of KPI assessments is the core product of this business. <h1><strong>Background</strong></h1><p>The Social Mobility Foundation (SMF) is a UK-wide charity dedicated to supporting academically talented but disadvantaged students to achieve their potential. Key campaigns of SMF include the Aspiring Professionals Programme (APP) and the Employer Index.</p><p><br></p><h1><strong>Challenge</strong></h1><p>SMF's digital presence was not in line with the youthful audience they were targeting. The existing website was outdated and suffered from common issues associated with Wordpress sites, such as slow loading times, excess plug-ins, and inconsistent theming. Over time, as different campaigns were initiated, the website had morphed into a patchwork of pages and sub-sites, creating a management nightmare.&nbsp;<br></p><p>Campaigns they ran faced significant challenges. Surge in applications during certain periods couldn’t be handled, and the application process had grown complex over time, posing difficulties for both students applying and the staff reviewing and scoring the applications.</p><p><br></p><h1><strong>The Work</strong></h1><p>We embarked on a comprehensive digital transformation journey for SMF, resulting in a fully redesigned digital brand and CMS website. The project included the following key activities and features:<br></p><h2><strong>Co-Design and User Testing</strong></h2><p>Involving students throughout the design process, Yalla conducted co-design groups to ensure a human-centred design. Rounds of user testing were conducted to validate the design and user journeys.<br></p><h2><strong>Technical Audit and Design</strong></h2><p>Yalla performed a technical audit of SMF's digital ecosystem, which led to a recommended technical design that catered to both immediate and future needs.<br></p><h2><strong>Design Thinking and Tech Training</strong></h2><p>Yalla provided Design Thinking and Tech training to the SMF team, ensuring full stakeholder engagement and equipping them with the skills to continue managing and developing the website in the future.</p><p></p><h2><strong>Service Journey Mapping</strong></h2><p>Existing service journeys were mapped to identify pain points and opportunities for digital enhancement. This exercise also helped in building a Product Digital Roadmap for the charity, facilitating sustainable planning.<br></p><h2><strong>Visual Language and Prototyping</strong></h2><p>We built together a new visual identity, translated into iterative wireframes and prototypes that were reviewed and validated with users. A new Design System meant the charity could now have a consistent digital brand identity across all platforms.<br></p><h2><strong>Development Sprints and Testing</strong></h2><p>Yalla conducted a series of development sprints, with automated, internal, and client testing integrated throughout.</p><p></p><h2><strong>CMS Website and Salesforce Integration</strong></h2><p>A new CMS website was built, featuring a brand identity co-designed with SMF. All campaigns were consolidated under one coherent visual identity. A new form builder was introduced to manage campaigns and applications more efficiently. Salesforce was directly integrated, streamlining SMF's entire CRM process. The application process was automated to assist admin.</p><p><br></p><h1><strong>Impact</strong></h1><p>The digital transformation significantly improved search performance, with improved ranking, unique visitors, and click-through rates. <h1><strong>Challenge</strong></h1><p>Shannon Trust, a leading UK charity running a peer-to-peer learning programme to help people in prison who cannot read, faced substantial digital hurdles. Their existing website was not intuitive, hindering potential donors and volunteers from understanding the services and the impact of their work. Moreover, their core learning programme, Turning Pages, was completely analogue, creating limitations in its reach, and making progress tracking for learners a challenging task.</p><h1><br></h1><h1><strong>Yalla's Solution</strong></h1><p>Recognizing the need for a comprehensive digital transformation, Yalla devised a strategic plan to revamp the website and develop a custom mobile application for Turning Pages.<br><br></p><h2><strong>Understanding Users</strong></h2><p>The first phase involved a deep dive into understanding the end-users. Yalla employed a Design Thinking methodology, involving stakeholders through interviews and workshops to map out user behaviours, frustrations, and goals. These insights built a strong foundation for the design process, ensuring a user-centric approach was maintained throughout.</p><p><br></p><h2><strong>Ideation, Prototyping &amp; Design</strong></h2><p>Armed with user insights, Yalla initiated the ideation process, creating a series of visual designs and interactive prototypes that worked to implement a new brand identity that had been created for Shannon Trust. This iterative approach allowed for continuous feedback and refinement, ensuring the final designs would be intuitive and satisfying for the end-users. Alongside this, a new design system was created, ensuring a consistent brand experience across all digital platforms.</p><p><br></p><h2><strong>Technical Design &amp; Development</strong></h2><p>In the technical design phase, Yalla worked closely with Shannon Trust to ensure mutual understanding and agreement on the technologies used. The website was built with Webflow, making it fully manageable for the Shannon Trust team. The web application, designed to be fully interactive, provided learners with a self-learning platform, complete with clear visual cues and audio support for ultimate inclusion and accessibility.</p><p><br></p><h2><strong>Impact</strong></h2><p>The digital transformation had a profound impact on Shannon Trust's operations and reach. The intuitive website design led to a substantial increase in user engagement, including a 155% increase in Users and 157% increase in Sessions. </p><p></p><p>Most importantly for the charity, engagement has been reflected in a huge growth in donations. </p><p>Additionally, since launching the website the charity has seen a record year in grant applications and growth in contracts by over £1 million. <p><strong>01 Where it all started</strong></p><p>The project began with the challenge of limited public understanding of Music Therapy. The goal was to improve awareness through intuitive user flows, targeting specific audiences, and effectively communicating Chiltern's mission. Enhancing the website was also key for staff to disseminate information widely, crucial after the organization's digital transformation and rebranding.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>02 Where we came in</strong></p><p>Our partnership was continued with this new project and we outlined a 14-week programme including discovery and definition phases, site mapping, and prototyping before the website build.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>03 What we delivered</strong></p><p><em>1.0 UX Phase</em></p><p>we closely examined Chiltern's existing website, using insights gained to structure and landscape the new site. This involved identifying key goals and user personas, which informed the creation of diverse user stories to address the needs of different groups like donors, parents, schools, and hospitals. A site map was meticulously developed to provide a clear structural overview for both the design and development teams.</p><p><em>2.0 Design Phase</em></p><p>we combined creative research with findings from UX workshops to prototype the site. Key to this phase was usability testing, ensuring the site's intuitiveness, and collaborating on a CMS structure for easy content updates by Chiltern staff.</p><p><em>3.0 Development Phase</em></p><p>We used Webflow for its flexibility and CMS integration. Our focus was on enhancing the referral process with a secure enquiry form and integrating a booking system for events, using Eventbrite.</p><p>Overall, these efforts aimed to make Music Therapy more accessible and enhance Chiltern's community outreach and service effectiveness.</p>

<p></p><h1>01 Where it all started</h1><p>Complexities in the Universal Credit claim process often prevent eligible individuals from completing their applications, leading to issues like rent arrears, eviction, and homelessness. These issues are stressful for claimants and costly for housing providers, who must manage financial impacts, support tenants, and advise on rehousing.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><h1><strong>02 Where we came in</strong></h1><p>Hyde Housing Association sought a digital partner to create an intuitive digital tool to assist claimants throughout the process. The tool was designed for both self-service and advisor support, aiming for reusability across the benefit sector. This tool has been recognized with awards, including ‘Most Innovative New Product’ at the Housing Innovation Awards.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><h1><strong>03 What we delivered</strong></h1><h2><strong>1.0 Creating an easy-to-use companion tool</strong></h2><p>Considering one of the main frustrations of users was the complexities of the Universal Credit online system, the last thing we wanted to do was create yet another digital tool they felt obliged to use that was equally confusing in how to use and in what it was saying.</p><p>Through continual design and testing cycles, we made the tool as simple as possible for anyone to pick up and use - stripping away any unnecessary clutter like creating accounts, while using local storage so the user could always pick up from wherever they left it.</p><p></p><h2><strong>2.0 Developing a supporting environment</strong></h2><p>How a user is feeling is a key consideration for the UX design of any digital tool. We knew our users were often anxious, frustrated, and confused. We focused on building a clear content strategy to inform not just this current version of the tool, but to provide guidelines for any future content updates, ensuring that users felt supported and not alone.</p><p>Working with Hyde’s experts - and continually testing with users - we also broke down the entire Universal Credit process into a series of manageable steps, removing any jargon and providing useful tips along the way.</p><p></p><h2><strong>3.0 Building for an open source world</strong></h2><p>This was not just a problem for tenants of Hyde Housing Association, but something that was affecting everyone within the benefits sector - both those needing to claim Universal Credit and the organisations looking to work with and support them.</p><p>We know it is not just enough to say something can be ‘re-used’ - you need to actively design the tool to be usable by and useful for others. A lot of our planning went into how this tool could most easily be re-used by other organisations with minimal development skills. They needed to be able to brand the platform, so it could seem recognisable to their users, with the ability to provide specific custom content, such as contact details for help. We treated organisations just like any other service user, building user personas to better understand their needs and frustrations. This was then used to carry out user testing at key stages of design and development to validate our work.</p><p>Over 60 organisations in the benefit sector signed up to use the tool within the first 3 months.</p>

Creating an award-winning reusable tool to guide people through the process of claiming Universal Credit

Yalla dived into our project with fantastic energy and took a very creative approach to resolving what we assumed was a near impossible challenge.
Throughout the project it felt like we were working in partnership and despite us having no background in neither design nor tech Yalla were excellent at bringing us into the decision making processes. The product we ended up with far exceeded our expectations.

I also have to commend how well they engaged with our staff and customers throughout user testing; everyone came away from their interactions with Yalla feeling that their contributions really mattered, and it was easy to follow how the feedback given translated into improvements to the product as it evolved.




Developing a Tool For Guiding Universal Credit Claims

<p><strong>Background</strong></p><p>Tempo Time Credits is the UK's largest time recognition scheme, partnering with organizations across the UK to foster increased community involvement.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Challenge</strong></p><p>Tempo's time recognition scheme was entirely paper-based, becoming increasingly difficult to manage after a decade of growth. All notes had to be counted manually and there was no way to track their usage. Furthermore, the website did not facilitate easy discovery of opportunities to earn or use Time Credits.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p><strong>The Work</strong></p><p>Yalla partnered with Tempo to digitize the Time Credits scheme. The goal was to devise a lean, testable approach for digital Time Credits and a scalable growth strategy. The result was an end-to-end platform for volunteers, charities, volunteer groups, and venues, all manageable by Tempo.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Problem Solving and Prioritization</strong></p><p>Yalla first dissected the problems Tempo wished to solve for themselves and their users. They prioritized these problems to create a list of potential opportunities.<strong> </strong>These were followed by a series of design thinking sprints, defining core users, building intuitive journeys for various user types within the Tempo ecosystem, and ensuring sustained engagement.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Technical and Design Planning</strong></p><p>Working in parallel, Yalla developed a secure, robust platform providing functionalities similar to financial apps. Users could view their balance, complete transactions, and review their Time Credits history.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Deep Insight with Data Ethics</strong></p><p>Yalla aimed to provide Tempo with deep insights into the Time Credits ecosystem, tracking every Time Credit from issuance. However, data ethics and user privacy were always a priority. Yalla adopted a 'Privacy by Design' approach, implementing stringent security measures, conducting regular audits, and ensuring transparency with users about how their data was being used.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Ongoing Release Strategy</strong></p><p>Yalla opted for an ongoing release strategy, launching an initial version of the platform for early testing and iterating with new features gradually. This approach facilitated sustainable product scaling.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Custom CMS</strong></p><p>The platform includes a custom CMS, enabling Tempo staff, venues, and volunteer groups to easily create profile pages and opportunities. This transformed into an easy-to-use marketplace for volunteers to search based on location and interests.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Impact</strong></p><p>The digital transformation was a resounding success, completely replacing the use of physical Time Credits. The platform has successfully handled the transactions of 1.1 million Time Credits so far.
