Kairn new that when users downloaded their macOS app and learnt their magic shortcut to create tasks within the first 10 minutes of using the product, retention skyrocketed at +50% (vs 10% without those steps).

So we designed a gamified onboarding which let users try their magic app without downloading it, mimicking the experience straight from the browser so people could start playing with it and understanding its power. Once they had played a bit we gave them the file to download and they were already convinced thus went through the whole installation and accepted the tight security authorisations needed for the tool to work its magic.

Developing that onboarding took a good 3-4 versions, including some no code ones through Intercom to start testing, analytics to measure what worked best, and then creative ideas to gamify the experience.
